This painting, called “Out Front”, 20×20″; acrylic, was accepted into the Society of Canadian Artists Elected Members Juried Show. The show is on now at the Markham Flato Theatre in Markham, ON. Last spring, I was juried into the Society of Canadian Artists as an Elected Member and this is my first attempt at entering one of the Society’s juried shows.
The painting is acrylic on canvas. I built up several layers of color in the background before I applied the foreground tree. Successful layers of color were coated with gloss gel medium applied with a palette knife, then subsequent colors were applied with the palette knife. The use of complementary colors makes the foreground tree pop. And that becomes the whole statement behind the painting – even though you’re different, you still belong.
It’s wonderful.
Thanks Carol!
It’s truly beautiful ! Congratulations!
Thanks Barbara. Appreciate the comments.
Beautiful painting Bob!
Thanks Helen!
Awesome. So much depth in the background. Makes one wonder “what lies beyond” .
Thanks Barb. Actually “what lies beyond” is more trees, then more trees etc. I have to drive through the forest every time I leave or return home and at times it seems endless but other times it can be so beautiful.
I absolutely love your work…as a photographer for 45 yrs I have a passion for painting…acrylics so far and blending colors is incredible..I love the different sizes you use…would love to learn more from you..Peggy Stokes Solana Beach CA
Thanks so much Peggy. Painting and photography are such a good fit. They both depend on light and color. We spent a little more than a month in southern California a couple of years ago. Based out of San Juan Capistrano but we drove everywhere, and one of our stops was Solana Beach. Such a beautiful area.
Beautiful! I just love the colors!
Thanks Donna!
What a glorious painting. The colours are amazing and have so much depth. Congrats on being accepted. You certainly deserve it.
Thanks Jane!
Congratulations. I love the lights and darks. The tree grabs your attention along with the light on the grassy area. The painting has a magical quality. Have you ever used watercolor instead or acrylic. I use both, but right now I am concentrating on watercolor. Fabulous painting
Thanks Sharma! I have used watercolor, but rarely. I find it much more difficult to control than acrylics.
