TulipsDecided to exhibit at a small number of outdoor art exhibitions this year. The Lion’s Fine Art Show and Sale in Cobourg, ON, from July 1-4 is the first.

Along with several of my larger pieces, I’ve been working on a series of 9″ x 12″ paintings that will sell for $100. each. It’s original art that perhaps is more affordable than my larger pieces…and I’m having fun with the series.

The tulip painting shown here started with a maroon background (you can see some of it in upper right). I REALLY like maroon but it doesn’t mix well or glaze well with the other colors on my palette. I applied straight-from-the-tube maroon to the entire background then scumbled yellow-green and blue- over it. These tulips from my kitchen table, in reality, are bright yellow-orange, but again, I decided to work with maroon as a base. Had to switch to Quin. magenta to lighten the flowers. The maroon was becoming too dull with other colors mixed in. With some yellow and quin.magenta gazed over the flowers, this is the final result.
